7 Quick Takes – Vol. 8

I was reading an amusing snippet from Brent Stubbs Quick Takes this morning, and The Boy wanted to know who I was reading.  I described Brent as an apologetics blogger – and he wanted to know what that meant.  When I explained that it’s someone who defends the faith online on their blog, he said, “That sounds AWESOME!!  I would LOVE to do that!!”  😀  Might as well start them young… I’m off to find Laurent’s copy of The Godless Delusion and see how he likes it.  May the Lord be pleased to raise up a mighty defender of the faith!

We are still fighting the ants.  I must buy and apply copious amounts of anti ant spray today.  I am SO ready to get out of this house…

Daughters Number 2 and 3 are taking off with their dad today for another weekender at the ranch.  He’s got to finish the task that was interrupted last weekend – filling our water tank – and the girls, having done great work on school this week, are going to join him for some hiking and lots and lots of photography.  I am slightly jealous on that score, but deliriously happy that my charger finally arrived in the mail from Amazon, my new battery is charged up, and I’m ready for action!  Just need to go find some action…

I need a Craig’s List primer.  Anybody know of such a thing?  I am going to want to sell some things once we get them back from storage, and though I’m leery of the Craig’s List way of doing things, lots of people seem to make it work.

Since my bro and SIL have been so impressed with the Theology of the Body materials that are being introduced in their daughter’s formation classes at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Fargo, I am thinking about finding something to go through here at home with the kids.  There is a middle school edition, and high school materials that include a DVD series, workbook, and leader’s guide.  However, I need an introduction myself!  I think maybe the first step should be Theology of the body Explained: A Commentary on John Paul II’s “Man And Woman He Created Them” by Christopher West.  Here’s a helpful review by Brandon Vogt.

Even though I already posted this link on Facebook, I want to include it here just so I don’t lose it.  10 Universities Offering Free Writing Courses Online.  What could be more awesome?!  (Ok, free theology courses, free philosophy courses, free music courses, yeah any number of free courses could conceivably be “more awesome” — but really, this is a marvelous opportunity.  I’m going to see if I can afford to take advantage of it! 🙂 )

  1. Do you know what times the Sts. Simon and Jude parishioners will be at the clinic on Sundays?

I’m not surprised that the Cathedral of St. Mary RE is so awesome – Fr. Wilhelm is an absolute gem.

    1. You know what, I thought it said the time in that bulletin snippet but it doesn’t. Here’s the Cathedral Office phone number: 602-242-1300 – I’m sure they will know the time! 🙂 And yes, Doug and Sarah have both said how wonderful Fr. Wilhelm is. I want to get up there for a visit and meet him! 🙂

    2. Thanks for the info.!

Re: Fr. Wilhelm, here’s a picture of him (he baptized our son)! 🙂

    3. Ahhh that’s just beautiful!! 🙂
