Last of the OGs

Last month a long-anticipated milestone was reached, and it’s taken me almost a month to process. In a whirlwind of events, Jacob, the youngest-born of the four Originals, found a job and a place to live nearby with his friend, Peter, almost an hour’s drive away – about as far east as you can go in Mesa and still be in Mesa – and moved out within – like – one day!

It is well understood in this current economic climate that it is VERY difficult for young people to afford to live independently from their families. Even those with full time hours find it difficult to afford a place entirely on their own without sharing rent with friends. I am so thankful for Peter and his wife, Rebecca, opening a space in their home for Jacob to spread his wings a little bit and supporting him in this first month while he waits for a proper first paycheck. He’s not getting full time hours yet, but it takes time to work up to that in fast food. Nonetheless he is doing his very best as the newest member of the Taco Bell crew, and in the meantime continuing to run his growing You-Tube channel, Stutteringmania (check out some of his most popular videos), and writing sci-fi short stories (under the pen name Jake Schafft – check out his growing Amazon store) as well as working on the first novel in what will likely be a series that he describes as “fantasy adventure with steampunk elements.” Most importantly in a mother’s opinion, he has found a church to attend nearby where a former pastor at the Cathedral is currently ministering.

So all good things are developing for my boy and I am so grateful and excited for all that is unfolding for him.

Before he left, I made him sit for a little portrait session in honor of his new status in life. I think they turned out pretty nicely!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
