You’ve all seen them on Facebook – the “_____ a Day” challenges, be they to take a photo on a different theme every day for a month, or a year, or post a selfie a day – you get the idea. I’ve tried to do a good number of these sorts of challenges because I’m really enthusiastic about the idea of challenging myself to post something every day, but I ALWAYS fizzle out, usually in under a week. I am simply too distractable and forget! (Diets hold the same pitfall for me… I just totally forget what I’m doing and before I know it I’ve blown the whole thing clean out of the water.) And thus, I have pretty much given up on participating in challenges.
Well my good friend Linda included me last week in a challenge to post a scripture every day for 7 days, and I was thinking “Dang. I have to do this one. I mean, it’s scripture! You can’t say no to Scripture! I’m going to have to start this… but I’ll probably fail and then I’ll feel like a wretch for forgetting The Word Of GOD.”
And so, with very low expectations, I set out to see how long I could make it before falling off this wagon.
And then something really surprising happened. By the second day, I was already looking forward to posting; by the third day, I even posted a photo along with my chosen passage.
Today is the fifth day, and I’m finding so much encouragement in this process, I’ve decided to take it to my blog, and see how long I can stay the course. Based purely on my human failings, I can’t last for long – but I have a sense that God wants to do something in me with this, and if He’s on board, that’s a whole different ballgame so — I’m just going to go with it. 🙂
So here’s the Scripture I posted today on Facebook!
Today’s passage is St. Paul’s admonishment to the Ephesians to put on the whole armor of God in spiritual warfare. May we take it to heart each day!
Ephesians 6:10-18 (ESV)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
