Surgery and Shopping

Surgery and Shopping

Here’s the thing about today: You’d think I could make it sound more interesting than I did, considering that there was an epic, rite-of-passage surgical procedure on the agenda!  Still and all, after a collossal amount of running around today, I can only manage to throw a bunch of bullets up on the screen and go off somewhere to collapse.

  • Took Megan to the orthodontic surgeon to have all four of her wisdom teeth removed. It took a little longer than the 40 minutes he predicted, however she was finished and walking out to greet me with an icepack on her cheek in a little under an hour.  And not feeling to poorly at all by then.  In fact, she exclaimed she felt “Awesome!” and was determined to come along on our major shopping excursion.  I suspected that might change as the nitrous wore off, but was glad she was feeling perky at that point, anyway!
  • Came home and it was around noon by then.
  • Loaded everyone up to do some errands, including getting Megan’s Rx’s filled.
  • First stop, gas station, as we were down to about 1 pt. of gas.
  • Next stop, CPS, to hand in some paperwork for our possible foster care placement.  That took a half hour — who knew you had to stand in line just to hand in some papers!!  Laurent graciously did the standing and waiting, and we were thankful that it was a cloudy day so the car remained cooler than it might otherwise have done.
  • Next stop, the pharmacy, only to find out they had none of either drug, and were sending us to another location three miles away.
  • By that time, the otherwise feeling-fine Megan decided she needed to head home for a bit.
  • Dropped her off, got her settled with the Roku button and some water and Ibuprofen and hoped it wouldn’t be too long until I returned.
  • Off to the other pharmacy, dropped off the Rx’s.
  • FINALLY grabbed a quick lunch at the Golden Arches next door — by that time it was nearly 2pm and I was surprised everyone had not completely melted into a puddle of hunger pangs on the van floor.
  • Went back and picked up the Rx’s. Made a beeline for Wal-mart in hopes of a “quick trip.
  • “First thing inside the door, I was reminded I had promised a haircut to Geneva before the Montana trip next week, so I got her situated with a stylist, then motored off with Laurent and Jacob in tow to complete our shopping at that end of the store.
  • Picked her up in the predicted 15 minutes with her snazzy new cut (I would have told the stylist to go shorter, but oh well, it’s very cute).
  • Continued on our way, but got waylaid by the back-to-school displays.  They get me every year.  Not that we don’t need the stuff all over again every year, but it always takes me by surprise, and it’s the element of surprise that adds stress to my shopping sojourn.
  • Finished with the school supplies and knew that the two carts we already had were going to be very full by the time we finished.
  • Was able to get the rest of the shopping done in none too rapid order, making sure I got plenty of yogurt and pudding and protein drinks for my darling invalid; and got home around 4:30, much to my chagrin.
  • Walked in the door hoping against hope that Megan wasn’t moaning in agony, only to find her springing off her bed to come help unload the car.  So far, so good with the whole pain management thing I guess! 🙂  (And that was before the percocet — please God may she need but little of the hard core meds!!)

Now I am thoroughly worn out, and need to think about supper.  I’m suspecting Tuna Melts are on the menu tonight… for the rest of us that is.  Megan will be having yogurt.
