This past week has been full of driving and laundry and I haven’t had a chance to sit down and really absorb (let alone blog) the events of Monday afternoon.
It seems like this graduation business always takes me by surprise – but once again, for the second time in a row, I found myself with a 16 year old who is ready to hop out of the homeschool nest and try her wings in the wide world. So, after Paul got home on Monday, the two of us took our daughter to GCC to register her for the fall semester as a full time college student. I was so happy Paul was able to accompany us this time, as I had to navigate the waters by myself with Laurent two years ago. We had a great time sitting in the enrollment center together, embarrassing Megan with our antics (well ok, that was just me) waiting for an hour for advisement. Laurent came and joined us when her class was done, and it was like a party. Lol!
When Megan’s number was up, Laurent and I wandered over to the bookstore to check out T-shirts and other possible tokens of congratulation I might bestow upon Megan, but since I wasn’t absolutely confident what color/style Megan would like, I ended up settling for a thermal coffee cup for myself.
Once Megan had gotten through advisement and registration, we went back to the bookstore to price her books. It wont be too bad this year semester – very thankful for that! She will be taking three basics – a Writing class, English, & Intermediate Algebra, and one interest course – Photography 101.

Fast forward to Friday — the end of an eventful week, as well as Paul’s last day working at iTracs. I decided we needed a night out to do a little celebrating. So I hatched a plan to go over to Westgate and do some “grad pics” with Megan, and then take the family to a movie. It was indeed a brilliant plan. Jeff joined us as well, and we got to revel in the fresh air and setting sunlight on one of the last pleasant days before the oven-like desert temperatures descend upon us. Westgate was jammed with people attending some event at the arena, but I managed to get some lovely shots of my lovely girl.

What an extraordinary gift this girl is — may God bless and make her a blessing to many as she begins her new life as a college student!

27 Apr 2013Bookstore college-brand stuff is always so expensive — but this thermal mug, all stainless, is totally worth the twelve bucks. 😀
