Veiling in Lent

Veiling in Lent

In the traditional calendar, on the fifth Sunday of Lent the Passion narrative is read, and all the images and crosses are to be veiled in Catholic churches and homes.  Dr. Taylor Marshall explains this practice at his blog, Canterbury Tales, in the article,

Why Do We Veil Crucifixes and Images on the 5th Sunday of Lent?

The Novus Ordo calendar changed the reading to Palm Sunday, so we will not see this at the cathedral until next week; but we decided to follow the traditional practice here at home.  Here are some images of veiling in churches as well as our own (I used some purple satin I picked up at Wal-mart).

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
