My dear husband loves to take his family on excursions. It used to be we would just go out and hike around in the desert on a Saturday, and that was its own kind of fun…. however, since more and more of us have developed into photo-bugs, our jaunts have become increasingly urban. This Saturday venture took us to three different locations, the first of which was Arizona Falls.
Now, normally one would hope for a sunny day for such an adventure; our day was, however, cool, overcast, and altogether inclement. Nonetheless we soldiered forth with typical Heidmann bravado, and I believe the results were gratifying to all, both in terms of fun as well as the resulting photos. Make sure to view these galleries on the full screen setting and read the occasional captions. 🙂

The second stop on our excursion was put to a vote, the choices being Tempe Town Lake, or Mill Avenue. I would gladly have avoided going to the downtown area, after my Scottsdale experience, but I was outvoted, and Mill Avenue it was. We passed by the lake on our way there, and discovered that some sort of festival was under way, and mobs of attendees were flowing across the streets at each stoplight, so I was very happy that, however busy Mill Avenue might be, I had escaped a far worse fate!

On the way to our third stop, two things happened. The first was that Jacob got my camera in his hands, and proceeded to take these pictures.

The second was that we made a pit-stop at the downtown branch of the Phoenix Public Library. This is a place where I would want a couple of hours with my camera, and I was too overawed in the short time we were there to use the facilities to even get mine out of the case. The children and Paul had fun riding up and down the glass walled elevators (and I think a couple of them took the stairs – all the way from the top), and they may have gotten their own pics. I stole these from the internet just to give you a sense of the size of the place.

Our last (official) stop of the day was Architecture Row, right in the heart of downtown Phoenix. We’ve been there before on other business, such as attending pro life rallies and such, but it was nice to take some time just to look at the buildings. I was delighted and calmed by the nearly vacant streets. Saturday mornings are now by far my favorite time to be in the city! And I don’t think I would have traded our inclement weather for sunshine… it was all the more pleasant for the likes of this Scandinavian.
