Ok, so here we are already Wednesday,
and I have not updated since the big Friday homecoming!
First of all, a few phone pics from our visit to Rehab while mom was still there:
The beautiful grand piano in the family room.
Geneva and Jake, hanging out on the balcony outside the family room.
The piano.
Grandchildren posing with Oma.
Geneva and Megan surprising me with their collaborative musical efforts.
And then, this from the elevator on Friday, as we “left the building”!j
Friday was a full day, what with heading over to the Rehab for an 11am meeting with PT/OT to make sure we knew what we needed to know about home care for mom, followed by stopping for some lunch on the way home and dropping off prescriptions, followed by finally getting home again and trying something new and fun with mom in the living room:
Turns out the couch is every bit as comfy as mom’s recliner chair in her room – but eminently more sociable! 🙂
Jeff stopped by between work and his evening mass,
and cooled his jets under the big ceiling fan for a while.
A perfect place to surf, nap, or gab with the family.
Paul got home soon, and then we took off for our usual shopping tour of Avondale. I couldn’t believe how much energy mom had. She toodled around on her own in her wheelchair while I shopped my list, and really only had trouble with some pain after sitting too long without a support under her leg. We have one on order from the home health company, so hopefully that will arrive this week.
On Saturday morning, I went with the girls and mom to Walmart, then dropped the girls off at home with the groceries, picked up Paul and we went to lunch with mom. So much fun to see her getting out and enjoying the world!!
Sunday was a big day, with heading over to church early for 8am choir practice and then 9am mass. Paul had managed to rig up a board – really just a short wooden bookshelf – to help support mom’s leg in the wheelchair, so was a great help in relieving the strain.
After church we all, including our Gonzales/Canez crew, headed over to the nearby Costco for a pizza lunch. What a party! 🙂
Heidmanns in the foreground, then alllll the Gonzales girls!
And the other end of the table – what a beautiful bunch! So happy to see Katrina again, it’s been too long!
Paul with little Carmello, our church friend Chris, and the matriarch at the head of the table.
Ernestt at the front, Raymond to his left with his back turned – can’t believe what a giant he’s grown into – here’s a little trip down memory lane to 2006 when he and his sisters stayed with us for a little while:
My goodness, everybody was so little!! And my house was so … pale! 😀
Oh, let me not forget, Johnny, the big brother of the family,
with ‘Mello at the table with Raymond.
I don’t know what was up with the segregating boys and girls, but oh well! 🙂
Anyway, that was our Sunday morning, and the rest of the day was a put-your-feet-up affair (except for Laurent and Geneva, who always go to sing the evening mass).
A very good Homecoming Weekend, indeed!!
