Today was a busy one — lots of school, lots of running! I had the kids up early and doing some work before heading out around 8:45 to hit the gym with Megan right away when they opened at 9am. Last time we went it was so quiet, I was surprised by the number of folks that were hanging around the entrance waiting to go in this morning. There were 5-6 who joined me walking around the track on the upper level, 4-5 in the weight room where Megan was just off the track, and about 8-9 in the aerobics studio doing a Latin-dance flavored workout that was mighty peppy and inspiring! We didn’t stay long because I needed to get the van back home by the time Laurent got home from her morning classes at GCC, but I got a good little walk in while Meg burned it up on the elliptical machine.
Back home again, Laurent stopped in long enough to cool off from her drive home from college, then took the Minty-Cool van to her voice lesson while I worked a little bit more with the kids and got a quick shower.
Then when she got home, we grabbed our gear and headed out to go see Oma, by way of Wal-mart (to buy some batteries for her little radio, and some workout clothes for her, and some Claritin for Jacob, who is getting that itchy eye thing again). Next stop was Safeway, where they have a delightful flower shop and I was able to pick up a beautiful orchid for mother, courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa Heidmann. From there we made for the institute.
After hauling our backpacks and bags and flower up to the third floor only to discover mother’s room vacant, we lounged around in the family room for a while before I took Megan down to PT on the second floor to see if she was there. She was in fact, and I left Meg there with the camera and instructions to take a few pictures of the session, while I went back upstairs to monitor the schoolwork.
Mom and Meg were back in about 40 minutes, and we had a chance to enjoy some music while mother practiced a couple of pieces from the Satie and Hayden books I brought for her. It was beautiful, I never tire of hearing mother play, even on an old piano in need of maintenance.
We couldn’t stay as long as I would have liked, since we had to get home and get dinner on the table for Paul, who had to leave to pick up 4 Gonzales young people and drive them to their first RCIA class; and Laurent and Jacob had to get going so they could be at church by 6pm for a night of uproarious hooliganism with the middle school ROC group.
Here are some pics from the afternoon.
