They usually go wrong all at once. For example:
Yesterday I was cooking lunch and the metal pan lid that was resting against the side of the pan slipped off and crashed onto my stove-top, shattering it. That was thing one.
Thing two is something that’s actually been brewing for a while, and we’ve finally decided we have to deal with it. The gorgeous pine tree in our front yard was damaged so badly in the fire last year that it is now finally completely dead. With it’s height, as well as it’s angle leaning over the house, the brittleness of the branches and the danger of high winds, we have to cut it down, and soon. The back yard pine tree fared slightly better, so it will only need to have the dead parts trimmed off. But still it’s going to be a big bill between the trim and taking the front tree down to the ground.
Then this morning, Megan was so good to get up early and finish her school and then start on chores. She had the dishwasher running before the other kids were even ready to start their school work. Unfortunately, something is amiss with that machine. She knows she did not mistakenly use dish soap instead of dishwasher detergent, so I really can’t imagine why it suddenly erupted in a riot of bubbles.
Oh, and just in case that wasn’t enough, the ice maker in the refrigerator just stopped working this morning as well. Not a crisis, just another THING!
However, when faced with obstacles, we follow the tried and true motto of Dory,
the memorably comedic Pacific Regal Blue Tang from
Finding Nemo:
We have taken bids, and found a bonded and insured tree design company who will come out on Tuesday with a crane so I can take some eminently blog-worthy photos. (Because as we all know, the entire world revolves around blog-worthy photos.) And we’ve ordered a new stove top, which Paul is going to try to figure out how to install himself.
The dishwasher and refrigerator are low on the critical scale, so I’m very thankful that those repairs can wait.
