So, mother’s surgery yesterday – not really too much of a big deal at all. We arrived a little after 11:30, were taken to pre-op around noon, and then basically sat there till 3:00, waiting for the docs to finish with an emergency that had cropped up. But then, after they kicked me downstairs to the waiting area, it was less than a half hour till the doc came down to chat. He said the procedure went great, and the good news is that the wrapping they have now placed on her foot is only to be changed once per week, and only at the wound clinic. This is probably so that, with less disturbance in the tissue, the growth of skin cells can begin. Anyway, we’ll be going back to the wound clinic once a week for a month, and hopefully after a month they can do the skin graft. That, at any rate, is the plan. We were out of the hospital and driving home by 4:30. Dear mother was a bit woozy, quite exhausted, and eating was touch and go last night, so we kept it light with some chicken noodle soup and jell-O. Hopefully with some rest today, she will get her energy back.
A box arrived for her in the mail as well — she had been musing on what method to use to “holler for help” when she needs it back in her room, and decided she wanted one of these bicycle horns, so she ordered one from Amazon.
They are hilarious — and it would have been just the ticket, except that dropping it on the floor just one time broke it. We’re going to have to get her a hiker’s whistle. One of those will wake the dead! Lol!
