Firsts

Firsts

Today there were a series of “firsts” in the Heidmann household.

First, this was our first attempt to re-landscape since the fire.

So far, so good.  That took a good chunk of the day.

Second, today marked the first time Jacob has had a friend over for a sleep-over.  He has been talking about having Peter over ever since the Jezek’s first came to visit, and despite several scheduling conflicts and a slight unexpected delay in their arrival, Peter did in fact make it a bit after 1pm, and the nonstop Star Wars talk began before they even got inside.

By late afternoon they had watched part of Episode 1, stopped because the disc was scratched and watched all of A New Hope and half of Empire Strikes Back before it was time to take a supper break.

Which leads to the third first of the day — our inauguration of the new grill!

Paul soaked the chicken in a nice brine all afternoon, then basted with garlic butter on the grill, and it was fantastic served along with Alfredo Potatoes with edamame and bell peppers.

For the blessing of all these firsts, Oh Lord, we are truly thankful.

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. What a great day of firsts!
I know it’s been forever since I commented–and I’m sorry for that. How is the house, your family, school?!?

    1. Hi Lisa!! No apologies needed – my goodness, I have not been around to my blogger friends in a long time myself. Life is busy, and so blessed. Our house is completed (check the “house” tag here on the blog for relevant posts) and beyond what we could have imagined. We are building new friendships in our church (always a huge blessing) and school is going well, with Laurent finishing her first year in college, Megan starting her junior year in the fall, Geneva entering high school, and Jacob coming along at just the right pace. 🙂
