I stopped by the house early this week, and it was bustling with the activity and the hum of the generator. As I walked up to the open gate, a weathered and seasoned looking man greeted me with the exclamation, “Boy am I glad to see you! I’ve got a bunch of questions about these paint colors you’ve got goin’ on in here…” I laughed and said I was not surprised, and glad to help.
As we walked through the house I was able to clarify several minor points, and as we finished off the office, he said “I had a heck of a time down at Home Depot looking up all these paint chips — I can’t figure out how you even found them!” I replied, “Well, I’m an artist and I’m eccentric, and that’s about all I have to say for myself.”
“I can definitely vouch for that second part!” he laughed.
Another day I popped in to check on things, and I wandered around grinning and giggling with the joy of all my colors coming together. He commented that the biggest job he’d ever had was a Basha’s supermarket. They had to paint the whole store, and every department had two colors. That job had 16 colors. My house had 17. WIN!!! 😀
Here’s a peek at how things are shaping up as of yesterday afternoon…
And as if all that happy color weren’t enough, we also made a stop by a place that advertised a used Hobart on craigslist. It is a company that reconditions used foodservice equipment, every kind you can imagine, from walk in freezers to bakery brick ovens to bread slicers to smoothie machines – and of course mixers of all sizes, some as big as me. It was the funnest store I’ve ever been in, to be honest. But I’m weird.
Anyway we would never have found them if it hadn’t been for this smokin-hot deal on a 20-quart Hobart they had advertised. It turned out to be a 1976 model, which is fantastic because that was back when they were still building the gear-driven motors, rather than the belt style they are building now. Solid metal, through and through… it’s basically a giant Kitchen-aid. This morning Ernie delivered my new darling, and I’ve got it sitting in the garage, atop the stainless steel table on which we also got a smokin-hot deal, awaiting the move over to our “own-own” house.
Let the bread-making begin!

16 Nov 2011Wow, that’s a bright house! We rented a place for a year that had about two colours in every room (from brown and blue in the living room to lime green, black, and white in the kitchen)… it seemed bright when we rented it, but now that we’re in another rental that’s monochrome white, I miss the bright colours we had before. You’re lucky you get to pick your own colors and fixtures and everything. Someday I’ll do that! 🙂

16 Nov 2011I know!! I feel so blessed it almost doesn’t seem right to have this much joy coming out of the destruction of that fire. But there it is… God does that. Praise from the ashes. 🙂
