I’ve been keeping up with the goings on at World Youth Day by checking in with Marc Barnes at Bad Catholic on a regular basis. His video updates are not only hilarious, but really capture the energy, passion, and anticipation of the young people there.

One thing after another precluded the call to ERE to set up a book excavation event for today, so we are staying in, and I’m just as glad because a) yesterday there was yet another haboob, and b) my lovely green Minty-van with the air-conditioning has a messed up power steering system, so I would have to drive the old white van Jimminy all the way to Tempe, (which, as I’m sure you recall, has no a/c), and which furthermore sat outside with the windows open yesterday…
in the haboob.

I still have to drive Jimminy today… to karate.

Yesterday I started a Twitter account… this is the second time I have tried it, and I am still a little skeptical that it will end up being useful, but I do know a little more about social media now than I did the first time, and, inspired by that book I just finished, I’m giving it a shot. You can find me there at http://twitter.com/AnnetteHeidmann . I know, not very creative, right? 😀

House Update:
Roof plywood is in place; office floor is poured; office walls are framed; new office ceiling trusses are in place; windows are going in next. I am VERY happy about the new windows – they are the new double-pane efficient windows and I expect we’ll see a significant savings in energy costs. Hallalujah! Paul got another call from our contractors yesterday to explain yet another quirk of the Glendale ROOLZ: Apparently they are not permitted to put the shingles on the roof until the electrical and plumbing are all installed. Why? We do not know. Who can understand the convoluted reasonings of that governmental agency… Anyway, until those things are accomplished we hope for not-much-rain.

Did I mention my eldest passed her driver’s test yesterday? 🙂 Our excitement at her 100% score is somewhat muted by the fact that a) she can’t actually get her license until September 8th, which is six months from the day her permit was issued, and b) because there are scam driving schools in town giving out certificates with no training, the MVD has started randomly re-testing people who come in to get a new license. So there’s about a 25% chance that she will have to pass another test. I guess she will just have to keep practicing her parallel parking!
