New Camera!!

Oh my stars in heaven above, I can’t believe it’s real, but yesterday I got to go pick out a new camera!!  The one I brought home is the Nikon – D3100 14.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera kit with 18-55mm VR lens.  This is a) a dream come true, and b) going to mean a lot of study and c) going to take several thousand not very good photos before any of them start turning out right.  But I’m willing to put in the time, believe me. 🙂  I’ve been poring over the manual, going through the Nikon Digitutor pages (screen shot below), and was happy to discover this SLR Photography Guide site from which I’m gleaning lots of good tips.

So here, not because they’re very good, but just because I want to keep a record of my progress, are the best of my initial attempts.  These are edited some, too, because… it’s what I do. 😀

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. Nice pics….I would say they SHOULD be….for that range of a camera! You should be having lots of fun with it in the days ahead!!!!

    1. They will eventually be. The better the camera, the bigger the learning curve (and truthfully, this one is NOT high end, as cameras go. It’s one of the less expensive SLR types). You wouldn’t believe how much more complicated it is than the point-and-click! 🙂 It *is* fun to be expanding my understanding of photography, though.

  2. Girlfriend! That’s my camera! I love it. Loveitloveitloveitloveitloveit!
When I went to PA for my uncle’s funeral, I didn’t think I had room for it, so I brought my old point and shoot. It was such a disappointment to go back to it.

I’d love to call you and talk through what I’ve learned (which, I promise, is rudimentary). I finally picked up a book from Amazon to help me.

    1. Carol, any wisdom you can share will be deeply, deeply appreciated. I am thick as mud when it comes to things technical. (I got that from my Dad! :-D) What was the book you got from Amazon – and is it easy to understand (a lot of what I read on photography is over my head…)?
