Our November celebrations this year were relatively quiet.
Grandma and Grandpa Heidmann joined us for Thanksgiving day, and it was a playful time with giant celery sticks, great vats of potatoes, Big Bear cuddles and whipped cream toppers.
Early Friday morning it was once again time to erect our Seussical Christmas tree. The kids took great delight in decorating, and I took great delight in letting them. It turned out beautifully. Later in the day, big brother Mark came over to celebrate Natalie’s 11th birthday. He brought the makings for slime. I smiled and kept my mouth shut, because apparently, kids like that sort of thing. After dinner Natalie brought out her flute and played a duet with Geneva on the ukulele. She had asked me to print out the Happy Birthday song so she could learn it. I’m so proud of her, she’s so self-motivated and is making wonderful progress her first year in band.
Saturday we took the kids to a park for a picnic lunch and some play time. Ruben, content up to this point (aged 16 months) to crawl wherever he needed to go, seemed to finally gain some inspiration when confronted with the wide open grassy spaces and decided to start walking in earnest – with lots of encouragement from his posse of brothers! It was so fun to be able to capture his tottering steps as he came toward me across the grass.
