On the Run

This week has been a bit busier than usual.  My normal schedule includes Karate 2x/week, theater 1x/week, RCIA 1x/week, RE-Choir-Youth Group 1x/week.  This week has included in addition to all that a visit to the orthodontist for  Jacob’s braces on Monday, an appointment for mom with an orthopedic surgeon – also on Monday, Tuesday Vespers and Mass in the evening, and 2 appointments with a Physical Therapist on Thursday and Friday.  Thus, Nettie’s World has been anything but quiet, even while the blog has languished.
The good news for the week is — No Knee Surgery!!  We had some concerns about that, but the surgeon put them to rest.  Mom just needs a few weeks of PT to strengthen her and get her back on her feet, and she’ll be off to the races again.  Thanks be to God!
While I was out and about with mom for her appointments, I kept in touch with the kids to make sure they were staying on track with their assignments.  It’s always iffy when it comes to Jacob, but two texts I got back from Laurent on Thursday absolutely warmed the cockles of my classical homeschooling mother’s heart:
“Very well.  Jake has done a chapter in Christ the King [that’s his new history curriculum – reading text plus 3 pages of workbook] & is almost done w/chapter 1 in Latin.  I am teaching him and reading Dante.  Meg is doing Aristotle, and Gen is also doing Latin.”
and —

“You will be very impressed with Jake’s work!  He is focusing well.”

I was utterly amazed when I got home and saw the 6 workbook pages he had done, including what for him was a really astounding amount of handwriting.  Very, very encouraging that he is able to accept Laurent as a coach and work well for her.  And as Paul said, what could be more natural than older siblings helping youngers, passing on their hard-won wisdom?

I love homeschooling!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. How thankful I am for my daughter and her willingness to chauffeur me around to all my appointments these days….and I was SOOO thrilled to hear of Jacob’s achievements!
His work in the workbook was really good….so I am pleased to be here to witness this!

  2. How exciting that the kids worked so well together! I’m still hopeful that mine will be at that point sometime. Sorry I haven’t visited in a while!

  3. I am so happy to hear that all are doing great. I am doing okay right now. It sounds as if the household is as busy as usual.

    1. Hi Donna! Thanks for visiting ye olde (or should I say, “new”) blog! 🙂 Yes, things are busy as usual, and of course about to get busier still as we are entering Holy Week – MANY services all week long. After this month things will ease up as theater will be finished for the summer.
