From the time Paul and his brother Jon were very small, their parents had an annual tradition: hiding the Easter Baskets. They would hide the baskets filled with goodies and then the boys had to seek and find, via the tried and true method of “Hot!” and “Cold!” The Heidmann clan is great with it’s traditions, and Grandma and Grandpa have kept the Easter Basket practice going. Every year since our wee ones were big enough to scamper about the house, squealing and giggling as we sat on the couch directing them, the Grands have been bringing over those baskets and Paul has been hiding them. Well, this year, since Easter is so late, Grandma and Grandpa brought the “Easter Baskets” along when they met us at the ranch for their final AZ weekend. And, since our children are far too old for “Hot!” and “Cold!” – and perhaps since it was April Fools day, Paul decided to make a challenge out of the annual search. The children and I went inside the cabin for a very long time, and when we came out, he announced the New Easter Basket Hunting Rules:
- Everyone goes along on the hunt
- Oldest to youngest
- Each basket is geo cached, so the hunter must use the GPS to find it
This gallery, then, is the repository of photos of the arrival of the Grands, and the Geo Cached Easter Basket Hunt.

4 Apr 2011What a great idea! We might try a low-tech version of that–more of an orienteering approach with a compass!
