March/April Ranch Trip – Friday Morning: Work

One of the unavoidable facts of ranch life is good old fashioned work.  There is always something that needs doing, and it usually involves significant energy output.  (And possibly $$.)  This trip being no exception, there was plenty to keep the men and boys busy.  Sometime during this winter season, our water pipe that runs down the hill from the tank to the sink burst due to the freeze.  Part of the reason for that was that Paul had dug too shallow a trench for the pipe the first time around.  So on this trip, he needed to dig up the old pipe, dig a deeper trench, and lay new pipe.  In this gallery you see the beginnings of this job, with which, I cannot fail to mention, Geneva helped in every way she could, as well as Jacob’s work, clearing tumbleweeds that had accumulated against the side of the quonset.  (There will be more on the subject of tumbleweeds later.)  Also a few pretty shots of morning light upon the golden grass.  Also a few shots of Geneva talking on the phone to her cousin (there was quite a bit of that this weekend as well).  Also a random pic of the cow skull beside the cabin… just because… it’s there.  And one photo of the most important part of the day: coffee!

  1. A functioning water pipe is definitely a priority! Any plans to put in a shower at the ranch?

    1. I’m especially pleased that the replacement pipe has a larger diameter, which increases the water pressure. Paul is less pleased about that, as he already thinks we girls waste too much water. I’m sure he would also think that a shower would waste water. He’s right, but it would be so nice!
