Firsts

Firsts

Well, I have a few minutes left before the end of today, so if I’m quick I’ll get this in before the pumpkin hour.

Ooo, pumpkin…

pumpkin spice…

pumpkin pie…

pumpkin latte…

but I digress.

Today was filled with firsts:

  • the first day of school for my 2nd graders and 3rd grader…
  • the first day at a new school campus, too!
  • the first time meeting a classroom of (hopefully) new friends
  • the first day they didn’t have to wear a uniform and could choose their own clothes…
  • the first time they could go to school with an empty backpack because they didn’t have to bring all their own supplies…
  • the first time I had to navigate the ordered chaos of drop-off at this particular school

The morning was relatively calm, with a tinge of excitement, anticipation, and a bit of anxiety, but after making sure everyone was ready, and having a little prayer time, we got all three to their classrooms in plenty of time. And I’m thrilled to report that all of them came home having enjoyed their first day, and the only one who had homework to complete was ME! So much paperwork, I tell you, it’s crazy. But I think I got it all done.

There was one other little piece of news we learned today. Our kiddo’s little brother, born prematurely on July 29, is getting close to being released from the hospital, and we will be having him join us sometime in the next day or two. What a blessing to have all the siblings living together! We couldn’t be happier – although I admit to some apprehension. It’s been 16 years since I had a newborn, and none of mine were preemies! Lord, give me peace and most of all, give me the energy for this! I know I will have many helping hands in the house to ease the burden, though. Even little 2yo Ellie has declared that, as big sister, she will have to “Shange da boops!”

Of course, because it’s been so long, we have no supplies for a newborn and are starting from scratch. Yet, already an infant car seat and some other necessary supplies have been provided by some friends from afar, and another local friend has some little boy clothing for us. This is true Christian charity, to instantly jump to action when seeing the need! May God bless them richly for their works of mercy.

I can’t wait to introduce the newest member of our household!

To close, I’ll just leave this lovely set of photos from my mother and father in law, who grow the most lovely flowers around their Minnesota home.
