Boys on a Swing

Boys on a Swing

Sometimes I bemoan the fact that we have not been able to afford to purchase any play equipment for the children.  Although for years we’ve had a trampoline, they do deteriorate in the summer heat here.  Ours is now gone, replaced by a clothes line — which has helped our energy consumption, but is not quite as much fun! And so, whenever we happen to meander through Lowes or some other big store and I see the swing sets and play forts on display, I nearly succumb to the feeling that I’m not quite providing the proper standard of outdoor entertainment for my children.

That is, until I take note of just how much fun they manage to have climbing on absolutely whatever they can find, be it setting up an obstacle course in my living room with step stools and the couches (oh, have they ever seen the tumbling, leaping, scaling and bouncing in the last few weeks) or this humble yard swing under the shady palm and acacia trees in front of our house. Nothing reminds me that things do not bring happiness like watching the sheer joie de vivre of these toddlers simply doing what God made them to do.

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. Such a pleasant place to climb and run…in the shade of that big tree! They can have fun with ANYthing around!
