2014 is upon us, and on the auspicious first day of the year we are always blessed to celebrate our “Itty Bitty’s” arrival on the scene. Every birthday of every child is very special — but when it lands on a world wide holiday AND a feast day of the church, well, it’s just MORE! 🙂 So we started our New Year’s Day/Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God/Birthday of Laurent Victoria by attending a beautiful 8:30am mass at the Cathedral, and singing two of my favorite Latin hymns: Salve Regina, and Veni Creator Spiritus. So much beauty and grace.
Back at home, it was time to kick party prep into high gear. Laurent planned some smashing festivities for her birthday, and I didn’t have much to do except put the odd thing on the table, wash the odd dish, and make the mashed potatoes. She planned and executed the menu and set up beautifully, and all was ready when her friends arrived for an afternoon of fun. Not all of them could stay overnight, as a few had to prepare for a retreat on Thursday, but all had a great time playing games and watching movies and eating the scrumptious grilled chicken provided by Paul.
A great many pics were taken with my camera by other than myself (mostly Megan) and I enjoyed seeing them when it came time for processing. A great many other pics were taken by Laurent muuuuuuch later in the night, when the giddyness was off the charts, and those are posted on Facebook for those who are her friends. I’m perfectly content to have been sound asleep when all that nonsense was going on. I’m so glad everyone had a grand time and my lovely daughter had a very Happy 19th Birthday! 🙂
