The afternoon was fairly quiet. Paul went on a short hike, Jacob read his books, and all afternoon the weather was steadily rolling in. It’s amazing how you see the front coming first, and then suddenly a gust of cooler air, and then the wind picks up, and you smell the rain coming. We heard thunder and saw lightning in the distance, and knew there would be no hot dogs toasted over the fire that night. Sure enough, the rain began in earnest around 6pm, let up just a little right as the sun was setting, and then down came the rain again, and the thunder didn’t let up until nearly midnight. It was exactly the sort of rain needed up there – long and slow and soaking. So good for the land!
