Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day

You know, lots of people carp about the artificiality and commercial nature of made-up holidays like “Mother’s Day”… but I gotta tell ya, I kinda dig being made much of.   Especially when my day starts with a heartfelt poem from my beloved:

To my wonderful wife, you’re simply the best,
Together forever, here in our nest.
A family we’ve made, a family we’ve got,
we’ve raised them up strong, from when they were tots.
A mother you’ve been, the best ever was,
your kids all do show it, and now you’re the buzz.
We wish you a mother’s day all filled with joy,
all three little girls, and even the boy.
May your day be merry and filled with ease,
your children and I do hope we can please.
So thank you again for the love that we share,
we’ll love you right back, just as much as we dare!

I didn’t know I was getting a Seussical poet when I married him.  That was a sweet and surprising bonus!!

My other favorite things about the day:

  • Singing “If Ye Love Me” by Thomas Tallis for morning mass… I had only sung the soprano part before this, and switched to alto for this Sunday.  Now I have the alto part running through my head. 🙂
  • Everyone had to watch whatever I wanted to watch (no running off to play on computers!)… we tried a new show, Outcasts – and an episode of Cadfael, which has become our Sunday afternoon tradition.
  • Laurent made lunch… sloppy joes.  We had purchased enough for our Gonzales crew, but they had other plans for the day, so we were on our own.  Sissy was happy about that, since she ended up snitching and consuming two entire bags of onions buns from the shelves of the pantry overnight.  (Gwinnie is by no means our only naughty dog!)
  • A two hour nap… bliss.
  • Conversation with our children… sparked by the plot of the musical Seussical — about the nature of true love.
  • Paul made supper… as he commented, entirely devoid of nutrition, but who doesn’t love a good queso-and-beef dip with tortilla chips! 🙂
  • Taking a picture with my children (because usually I’m behind the camera):

Thank you all for a lovely day.  I felt refreshed and blessed by your love!!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
