To New Things

Today was the start of a brand new semester of theater for Megan and Jacob, this time involving two separate productions!  They were exceedingly antsy and squirrelly all morning and were quite the happy campers when it was finally time to depart.  I couldn’t resist grabbing a pic of some sibling luv on the way out the door!

I was a trifle anxious, what with her giddy mood and all,  as I handed Meg the keys to the van. We had previously discussed her using the trips to practice her driving skills. However, once she got behind the wheel for the drive to class, Megan did manage to collect herself, and we all arrived without incident.

The initial pandemonium of the first day parent meeting and signing forms was hard to take – crowds, laughing kids, jabbering parents, all while an un-mic’d director was beginning the meeting at the top of her lungs from the platform trying to talk over it all.  When I finally got to sit down however, I was happy to see three other SSJ moms there, my friends Laura, Kim and Dianne, whose daughters are in the high school show with Megan.  They will doubtless have a blast together performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  Megan claims she doesn’t like to sing, but she couldn’t stop humming the show’s tunes for the rest of the afternoon when they got home! 🙂  A good sign.

Jacob’s middle school production is Ants’Hillvania, and it’s a HUGE cast!  He’s by now, at 13, one of the biggest kids in the group, although there is one other boy about his height.  We got to watch a little bit of the dance auditions, which were done in groups.  It was so fun to see him move – he just surprises me in so many ways!  He’s got a knack for a great many things that I do not.  I guess that’s just another one of the little joys of parenting – seeing the unique gifts of each of your children blossom as they grow up.

Anyway, we’ll know about their part assignments next week, and then the work will begin! 🙂

When he got home from theater, Jacob received another happy surprise – the headset he had ordered from Amazon with his allowance money had arrived!

He has been borrowing a microphone from one sister, and using separate earphones, while doing Minecraft via skype with his friends.  This is the perfect solution – and the earphones work like a dream!  He let me try them out, and I’m in love.  I’m going to have to get myself a set!

Laurent, Geneva and I finished off the day with our favorite part of Wednesdays – choir rehearsal.  It went long, till nearly 9:30, but as always, a good time learning new music and chants for the coming weeks.  And before we left we were able to nail down a time and date for Geneva’s first piano lesson – next week she will begin the part of her music education I personally hated with a passion: learning to read notes after having played by ear.  Yes, if you’re wondering, I do in fact kick myself for not tackling this with her (and all the kids) at a much younger age.  However, heehee – now I don’t have to!!  I’m out-sourcing!! 😀

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
