Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

We’re all gearing up for Thanksgiving, from what I see on the blogs and facebook pages of my many friends.  Some are lamenting the crowds in the grocery stores; some are excitedly preparing the dishes they will bring to another family member’s home; some are hosting their own very first family Thanksgiving event; some are planning to serve the homeless on Thanksgiving Day.  All of these are reasons to give thanks – even the crowded grocery stores, which mean that even in this poor economy, there are people with enough money to buy some yummy food for the feast.  Thank you, Lord, for the abundance you have given us to share.

Our house has been filled with good smells since last week when the hams were put in the roasters.  Yesterday I dressed 3 turkeys and set them to cooking, and by this morning they were falling off the bones.  Tomorrow morning I will have 3 more to cook.  It seems ridiculous how much turkey we have – yet we are always so happy to feed all those who come to spend the day with us, and to send home plenty with everyone as well.  I shouldn’t have to buy meat until well into the new year!

During the KOC picnic, it was decided by Jacob and Peter that they would like a chance to hang out and play minecraft and watch Dr. Who together, so Peter came home with us.  One overnight became two, and they are just now beginning to quiet down (it’s after midnight here)… it is a joy and blessing to see my boy having fun with his good friend!!  Another reason to give thanks!!
