Sunday was a very fuller-than-usual day, beginning with choir rehearsal at 8, mass at 9, a quick lunch at Costco with the usual suspects, followed by about 1 hour at home before heading out again to get over to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield Park, where Laurent was to make her debut, singing in Karen Crawford’s studio recital. It was a great afternoon of music, listening to a wide variety of styles, by Britten, Handel, Purcell, Fauré, Franck, Gershwin, Lloyd Webber & more. Though she has only been studying with Karen for a couple of months, Laurent did a lovely job singing Benjamin Britten’s “Down By The Sally Gardens” (here sung by Yves Saelens and beautifully accompanied by Inge Spinette)
and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” from the Requiem Mass
(here sung by Anna Netrebko and Andrew Swait).
We arrived early so she could have a run-through, and that allowed me to walk the grounds of their beautiful mission-style church and take some pictures. Afterward we had to celebrate, and went to Cold Stone Creamery – where we all got sick on sugar and remembered why we go there so seldom. 🙂 (Note to self: 1 small dish per 4 people.)
I’m so thankful Laurent has the opportunity to study with Karen and can’t wait to hear how she grows over the next year of instruction!!
