… when you’re having fun, when you’re busy, when you’re distracted… there are any number of times when time flies, when you think about it.
Another game of catch up, by the bullet:
- Last week…. mum felt lousy for several days in a row. We figured out eventually that her pain med was partly responsible, and once we knocked that out of the picture, she perked up considerably. Meanwhile, she lost a day of therapy on Thursday.
- Sweetie took me to visit Moon Valley Nursery on Friday afternoon. Being the kind of loving, thoughtful, whimsical sweetie that he is, he wanted to surprise me. So I did not know where we were going until we arrived, and it made me slightly peevish that a) I had to tramp around acres of muddy paths in my ballet flats, and b) I did not have my camera!! Other than that it was a haven of joy and I wished I could just “build myself a tabernacle” and live there. I was hailed by a friendly fellow while I was gazing in rapture at a trellis of Cape Honeysuckle. He turned out to be Paul’s worst nightmare: the Design Guy. Oh, did he have great ideas for our dirt-scape!! Tipu was his favorite recommendation, and I have to admit it’s a pretty one. Then he pointed out a ficus that he thought would provide a nice shade canopy…. and in trying to find a photo of it online, I discovered that the Banyan tree is a relative of the ficus, so now of course I want one. Except that I fear it would gradually take over the entire back yard and the house and possibly even the whole neighborhood. Not that that’s a bad thing… I could work with a Lothlorien theme. Anyway, we also looked at what I think might be Cape Plumbago (again, no camera, no notebook, I don’t remember the names of very many of the plants he mentioned) and several varieties of Lantana and of course the main reason we actually went there in the first place, Creosote (Paul love these scrappy, hardy, tough little desert trees that smell like rain when you rub the leaves). Finally we were talking about bushes to intersperse with our oleanders, and he showed us the Upright Rosemary, and I had to have them. I wanted to bring home four right away, but we ended up just getting two for starters (and putting the creosote bush back to wait for another day).
- Saturday night Jeff and I went to a movie. It was a very harsh and realistic movie about gangland law enforcement. I think we probably forget to pray enough for our police. Here’s a review for you, if you like reading reviews. I think this one covers it fairly well. I really loved the friendship between the two main characters, but I’ll just reiterate: harsh, realistic. Not for the faint of heart, or tender of ear.
- Sunday was a glorious Pontifical Mass with Bishop Olmsted for the beginning of the Year of Faith. We also had our new organist, WIlliam, playing for the first Sunday – he’s wonderful, and we’re so blessed to have him join with us in making music to the Lord, under the baton of Adam Bartlett, our new musical director.
- This morning Mother had an appointment with the prosthetic guys to see how her shrinker is working.
Turns out, it is working so well, they made a cast today and will start making the temporary prosthetic right away! Above, she is trying on the sleeve that the prosthetic clamps onto (see the screw at the end…).
She may be up, out of the chair, and walking with her walker in a couple of weeks! It was so exciting to hear him say that he doesn’t see any reason why she wont be walking without any assistance – even a cane – eventually!
The rest of the day was for school, school, school.
- Tonight, Jeff, Mother, Megan and Geneva and I went out to a movie. We saw Taken 2.
Nuff said.
