Wandering More Common in Autistic Children Than Once Thought – ABC News

This is important.  Long before we knew anything about autism, we observed that Jacob would wander, no matter where we were, if someone were not holding on to him at all times.  He was not anxious or scared of anything, he was just curious about the world, and utterly oblivious as to where the rest of the family was at any given moment.  Being the youngest, all his sisters were very protective of him, which helped this mother of four tremendously in keeping track of the crew.  From the time he was two, we would automatically recite the mantra whenever disembarking from the van: “Girls, stick to Jacob like glue!”  And they did.  Since then, there have been innumerable times when I have been thankful that his window opens into an enclosed back yard, since for several years he habitually climbed out his window.  Thanks be to God, we never lost him!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
