An Eight Year Old and A New Photog in the Fam

An Eight Year Old and A New Photog in the Fam

The anticipation was keen throughout last week, growing stronger as Sunday approached. Ellie’s actual birthday was on Wednesday, but we had to wait till the weekend to celebrate properly at Grandma’s house and with Mama Ana and Papa Jose.

Ellie chose her favorite food for lunch – In-N-Out burgers! And she also chose a Tres Leches cake and a Chocolate-Vanilla Marble cake for dessert. It was pretty epic.

While we waited for lunch time and for Geneva to arrive (Laurent was asked to sing an extra mass at the last minute so she wasn’t able to make it), Efrain did some experimenting with the “kid camera” – a Rebel T6. I showed him a couple of things I’ve learned recently about using aperture priority, and off he went. Turns out this kid LOVES taking pics, and he’s already getting some great results! That birdie pic with the buttery bokeh? Not too stinkin’ bad for a beginner! I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does with this…

I also had some fun with my “nifty fifty” – Sigma 50mm f1.2. Some of my favorites were the ones with Ellie doing her hoola hoop. I just love what her hands are doing in each frame! Also lots of laughing and tickling and wrestling with Dad… all the good stuff of which family time is made.

Ellie was delighted with her roller skates, and I surprised her with a waffle maker because she’s been on about waffles lately, making them, or buying the ego waffles (which I just don’t have room for in my freezer!). She was psyched – and we broke it in this morning for breakfast first thing.

I’m sure there will be more waffle making throughout this week, as the kids are home for spring break. Good times with all the kids home all day every day! They’re getting SO many chores done! Lol… but don’t worry, I’m letting them veg on their screens and sleep in in the mornings so it’s still a proper vacay.
