New Years Day we traditionally have some kind of walkabout, either a trail hike or downtown Phoenix. This year everybody seemed to be in a stay at home mode, but I had cabin fever and also really wanted to test out my portrait lenses. So I found a volunteer model – Ellie! And Paul happily came along as my photography assistant/chair pusher.
We decided to go to downtown Glendale, and it was a good choice. Late afternoon was about the warmest it was going to get at 55F, and it was nearly a ghost town. We only ran into one obnoxious dude, at the end of the afternoon, who was clearly on some strong medication and needed a time out.
Ellie is such a good model – loves the camera, and very cooperative and creative with her poses. I lost about 25 pics when we moved to a sunshiny area because I didn’t understand what I was doing. I learned some important things about light and focus out of that, though, so not a waste at all. I definitely need an assistant for these kinds of shoots, though.
I’m just so happy to be learning and growing as a photographer. This feeds my soul.
