Some days it’s just hard to blog. I mean, you don’t want to read, and I don’t want to blather on, about how one family member after the other keeps getting the stomach flu… and frankly, even if some might find it amusing, I don’t want to relive in detail the experience I had Monday of getting my first crown (my hands are finally beginning to un-cramp from the death-grip I had on the arms of the dentist chair).
We did have a bit of a change of pace on Friday evening, while the girls were at church for First Friday holy hour. Paul and I were puttering around here, working on computers and making supper, when we heard a faint halooooing out front of the house. Now, you have to understand that when our contractors were re-wiring our house, they did almost everything right. However, there was a certain lack of forethought in this one particular feature:
Yes, that’s right. The doorbell is about 8 feet inside the front gate. It will take either a very complex steampunky remote-control-gears-and-pulleys-attached-to-a-fake-hand gizmo, or perhaps a cleverly programmed doorbell-ringing robot,
or failing that, a little rewiring, to enable guests to actually ring the bell from the outside.
Anyhoo, hearing a voice faintly calling, Paul went to the door, and discovered a young lady from down the street, who had come to introduce herself. Heather turned out to be such a delightful girl, and I was so impressed with her initiative in stepping out and making that connection. We invited her to come back a little later when the girls were home, which she did, and the four of them had a great time getting to know one another, finding out their common interests in reading and writing and so on… so much so that Heather returned on Saturday, spent most of the day with us, stayed overnight, went to church with us on Sunday, and spent the afternoon down in Sun Lakes with us for the annual Triple Birthday celebration. We enjoyed a typically beautiful Arizona winter afternoon out by the lake, a lovely dinner and tasty cake, good times around the table, and a bit of festivating over a whole bunch of clothes Auntie Jess brought for the girls. As I expected, Heather fit right into the family and we loved having her be a part of our celebration. (My apologies – the thumbnails are malfunctioning, but the slide show works perfectly. THANKS SWEETIE — Thumbnails are fixed!!)
Tonight we will be at church for a special ceremony for our two youngest who will be receiving their workbooks for their confirmation class. Then mother and I will stick around for a spot of choir rehearsal.
