It wasn’t really an anniversary gift, but that old Toyota commuter car Paul had been driving was dangerously close to dying and we needed something new. Since we’d just paid off my van, I told him it was jolly well time he got something more reliable than the usual $1500 beater he has been picking up for himself for the last umptiddy years. Well, he couldn’t see his way clear to buying a more expensive used car without a warranty, (not even the beautiful yellow Hummer for $9k we saw in the neighborhood) so after doing his due diligence, and considering that he absolutely had to have a manual transmission, that narrowed his prospects considerably. He finally settled on the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I’m delighted for him, and know this will last him for many many years.
So Friday was our 27th anniversary. However, since all the restaurants are closed and the theaters are closed, all the ordinary avenues of celebration were thwarted. Thus we decided to take a little trip to the desert and do some 4×4 off road exploring. It was absolutely heavenly. We didn’t even turn on the radio (though it has SXM and an awesome sound system!). It was enough to be together, talk, drive, and appreciate nature, stopping whenever I wanted to snap some pics.
When we got home, Paul went and picked up pizza and we enjoyed it with the kids, after which they watched “The Mask” with Paul — so funny to hear them laughing uproariously. Jim Carrey for the win!
It was a really good day. Thank you, God, for all these blessings.
