Despite the marvelous provision that our State Farm Insurance has been throughout this fire recovery period, there have still been various projects for our new home that needed to wait until a check showed up before we could go shopping. I knew that the money was coming this week, and so I spent a good deal of time and gas running around looking at every furniture store on the west side to make absolutely sure I found what I wanted, and at the best price. It turned out that I finally found “the perfect” sofa-loveseat set, back where I started months ago, at the Big Tin Shed. Though it’s an extremely un-glamorous place to shop, you can definitely find a bargain or two! Since I’d scouted it out on Thursday evening right before closing time, I went in first thing Friday morning and paid for the set (getting the floor model because it’s being discontinued!), and let them know we would be in later to pick it up when Paul got off of work.
During the afternoon, the kids had a visit from a theater friend, and they had a typically splendid time together, coloring hair with spray coloring, jamming to various “Ga-Ga” songs (just to bug me, I’m sure), letting Alyx try all the stringed instruments, and going to the park.
While they were thus occupied, Paul and I trekked to the warehouse with the trailer, and when we got home, the girls were back and ready to help with the very tricky business of getting the couches unloaded and into the house.
Right after we got our gorgeous new furniture situated and said goodbye to Alyx, we had to run out and do our usual family shopping trip. We brought along the trailer since a) shopping at Costco usually means a very-very squishified ride home in an undersized mini-van and seven passengers, and b) the plan was to go to Lowes directly thereafter to purchase mirrors for the bathrooms.
However, of course that plan went down the tubes when we finished shopping and realized how much freezer food we had. So home we went, dropped off all the groceries, kids, and Oma, and Paul and I then buzzed up to Lowes to get our mirrors. We waited to put them up until this morning, and only then discovered that one of the mirrors was broken, requiring another trip to Lowes to replace it, before finally my sweetie and I were able to get all the mirrors hung.
Hanging mirrors is tricky business, let me tell you. Especially when you have to hang them by two sides instead of just a center hook. But we got it done (even that silver one that took 5 wall anchors before we got it right)! And then we hung a few more things around the house…
… and things just keep getting homier and homier. Thank you Lord… so many gifts!!
