It’s been several years since we did a whole ranch-Labor-Day vacay, and this year we had the chance to take an extra long weekend, so we were pretty excited. We took off Thursday after the kids got out of school – just grabbed them and hit the road, didn’t even let them change out of their unis!
After a late night arrival, we snuggled in for the night, turned out the lanterns, and slept peacefully in the tranquil rural solitude.
Morning dawned brightly, and immediately the children began taking turns with my camera. I’ll let you in on a little secret: editing their photos is almost more fun than taking my own – each new image is such a surprise, and I’m endlessly intrigued to learn what captures their interest!
Our first order of business Friday morning was to go into town. We needed breakfast, food supplies for the weekend, and water, and we were meeting Laurent and Grandma, who had left the valley at sunup. There were quite a few misadventures along the way, including filling the portable water tank on the back of the trailer, only to find that we were missing a piece of hardware necessary to transfer the water to our tank at the ranch. So we had to dump the water, then Paul had to go to the hardware store in search of the proper equipment, while I took the kids to the park. There, they found a snail that captivated their attention until it was time to go pick up Dad.
Below are pics of the arrival, morning, and the snail.
