The Great Fall Meet-Up — Hiking with the Cousins

As is our long-standing custom round about the end of October each year, we loaded up the van Friday afternoon and left for the ranch right after Laurent raced home from finishing her math quiz.  It was gorgeous day for a drive, and proved to be a brilliantly dull trip in terms of automotive drama.  We were blessed this year to have Jon and the cousins join us for some of the weekend (though we missed Jessica, who was out east visiting her family).  We barged in on their hotel and got the kids all revved up when we got into St. Johns, which is always a good and salutary thing to do around 8:30pm.  Then we left them in a tizzy and headed out to the ranch for the night.

Next morning we got up bright and early and zoomed into town to meet them and the Grands, whose drive down from Minnesota had begun on Wednesday morning.  We invaded the Wilbur’s IGA deli and finished off the last of their breakfast food, before heading over to a nearby and familiar canyon for a morning hike.  Piks below, with captions.

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
