ROC Costume Party!

Great were the preparations today for the SSJ middle school youth group’s fall costume party!  We hurried through school in the morning and then spent the afternoon painting the cane gold, taking Megan to church early to help set up, then coming home and getting The Riddler and The Sprite into their colorful hair and all such manner of frivolity.

We were SO excited to leave at 6pm that we entirely forgot to bring the big box of food (for SVdP) the kids packed up to bring as their ticket into the party.  (No worries – Paul will be going there tomorrow anyway so he can bring it then.)  Donations to St. Vincent de Paul are desperately needed right now because of the poor economy – it’s a double whammy:  many more people need assistance, and many fewer people can afford to give.  Anything you can do for your local chapter will be enormously appreciated!

I spent the evening perambulating around the campus with young Mr. Efrain, the adorable cuddly 5mo. old baby boy of my RCIA candidate, Malinda.  He was highly perturbed for the first stretch, and consequently I walked, and sang, and carried him while pushing the stroller, and changed him, and fed him, and strollered some more, and finally he calmed down and got himself back into his usual happy mode, and I was able to sit down for about 15 minutes.  I have not done that much non-stop baby duty in 11 years.  I think I threw my hip out (wow that made me sound old)… Lol!

Anyway it was a highly successful evening both for the party peeps, and for Malinda, who got to listen undisturbed to Fr. Lankeit present the evening’s lesson on Mary and the Saints.  We talked more about that on the way home, and had a good discussion.  I’m so blessed to be able to be a sponsor! 🙂

Here are the pics I took before we left the house, and one with the older girls in their Police Woman and Gypsy costumes.  Good fun!!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. Love ’em! love ’em! They are ALL spectacular! I’m sure they must have had a ball! Love Megan as the Police woman! She’s got the look! And what was Geneva again? and the Riddler and Gypsy woman….just great!

    1. Neva was a “Sprite” — her little purple bottle had sparkly fairy dust in it! 😉

  2. A fine-looking bunch! Is Megan really that much taller than the others?

    1. They thoroughly enjoyed the entire process of collecting all the pieces of their costumes and putting it all together. 🙂 And Yes, Megan IS a good 3″ taller than Laurent, even without the platform boots she was wearing that night. That doesn’t mean she’s tall though — all my kids have inherited shorty genetics. If any of them top 5’8″ it will be a miracle. (And we’re basically down to putting our hopes in The Boy.)
