And we’re off!!!
Another week has begun with a flourish. I am not always completely thrilled when the lights blaze on at 5:20 a.m. and the hustle and bustle of groggy girls chucking their algebra books onto the dining room table, and the glass patio door near my head sliding open as the dogs are being let out for their morning run-around all conspire to press the pause button on the surreality of my dream-state. Today though I woke with a mission, and stumbled bleary-eyed but purposefully through the essential task of making a pot of strong coffee, so that both I and Laurent would be ready for our long awaited trip to the MVD to finally get her license.
We arrived at the Avondale address at 7:55am with 5 minutes to spare before the doors would open, and dutifully got in line behind the 30 people who had been even more on the ball than we were. Once we got inside things moved at lightning speed (for a government bureaucracy) and by 9am I was walking out the door with a newly minted legal driver. I talk to many mothers who commiserate about how much I will worry when my children start driving on their own… I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, because I’m not worried at all. I’m thrilled that Laurent is gaining some independence, and I’m thrilled that I am gaining some independence – and an extra driver for errands and trips to church! Lol! Baby, it’s all good. She’s an excellent and careful driver, a very responsible young woman, I trust the Lord to watch over her, and I know she’ll be fine.

From the G.K. Chesterton page on Facebook I acquired this: “Something beautiful, in case you missed it: Music inspired in large part by G.K. Chesterton (and C.S. Lewis). The title is taken from a chapter of GK’s book, “Manalive”. ”
