Of the planning of many plans, there is no end…

It’s a little bit crazy town around here right now, is all I can say.

Last night I spent some time gathering data to create my “Google Calendar” for the year.  I have now got 29 entries per week for the first semester… that I know of.  We have never been this busy!  This will either be a wonderful, challenging growth experience, or my ticket to a padded cell.

We just stopped by the house tonight to see the newly installed windows, completely enclosed office, and the framing for the kitchen and master bedroom.   And I was shocked to discover a wall where I had not expected to see one.  I am trying to remain calm, but the problem is, nobody was able to explain to me when I was “giving my approval” to the plans, what exactly I was looking at, and I would not have approved this wall.  Now that the city has already signed off on the plans, I don’t know if it can be changed.  I dearly hope so.  If not I will simply have to adjust my mental picture of the house… but I cannot tell a lie: this is really messing with my feng shui.

I also had a talk with our contractor today (before seeing the house tonight) and found out that a significant part of my kitchen cabinetry cannot be built as planned, which would reduce my storage by about half.  The good news is I will be talking to Cabinet Guy on Friday, and hopefully I will be able to resolve that problem by installing some built in cabinets along the wall where we used to have the silver pantry shelves (remember the yellow wall?  Wouldn’t built-ins look pretty there?  We’ll see – that may be too expensive, in which case, back go the silver shelves.).

Geneva and Megan have begun their new theater season – first rehearsals were today.  The air was rife with words like “epic” and “awesome” and “amazing” and “brilliant” as we drove home…

With all the girls out of the house on Wednesdays, Jacob and I have time to work with a little more focus.  It’s been fun this week because I’m giving him a break from math, and he’s been reading some church history, learning about the ancient heresies, such as Arianism, Nestorianism, and Monophysitism.  He’s got a pretty good handle on nutshelling them already… he’ll get to learn more detail in a couple of years when he gets to start History of the Church.

Lastly, for fun and giggles and just the sheer flabbergastery of it all, I found myself clicking on a link that took me to the Duggar House photo album.  Now you should know, I’ve never seen any of these pictures before, never seen an episode of their tv show or even watched a youtube, so it was all brand new and so completely beyond the scope of my imagination as to what a single family dwelling could possibly entail that I could only sit there, “amazéd for a while”.  I do love several notions – the “girls room” and “boys room” is terrific, basically what we have done with our girls but on a grander scale.  The kitchen/serving line is beyond cool.  But really, the pièce de résistance was the laundry room and FAMILY CLOSET.  I love that so much I could weep with joy.  Best.Idea.Ever.  I am even now plotting how I can incorporate this brilliance into my new house.  There MUST be a way…. 🙂

  1. I want a family closet too! I agree it’s brilliant, especially in a large house with a large family. Who wants to lug all those clothes up and down stairs? Not me! But even so, I’d love to have that in my own home on a smaller scale. I love the Duggars 🙂

I hope they can work out your cabinet and wall issues!
