16 going on 17

16 going on 17

Yesterday morning, for the third time in the history of my home schooling, I found myself surprised to be at Glendale Community College to accompany another of my children to their placement exam. I swore I would plan ahead for Geneva, and truthfully, she spent most of this past year declaring she was not interested in finishing early and starting GCC.

But things change, people change, and considering how much she has accomplished in the last three years, and the many ways she has surprised me thus far, I should have expected nothing less.

And of course, she did very well in her placements. Thus my weekend homework was to put my ducks in a row and get her transcript ready to take on Monday, when we will formally register our third college student. She’s already picked out her classes, and Megan helped her plot out a schedule. To start off her music major, she wants to take:

  • English,
  • Math,
  • Music Theory,
  • Violin, and
  • Hip-Hop Dance.

I can’t tell you how tickled I am at that lineup. 🙂 It should be a fun and challenging first year for her.

So, just in time for her 17th birthday (coming up this week!), she is officially done with high school – pretty nifty birthday present to herself! 🙂

I have asked my kids if they want to have a big graduation celebration with a ceremony, gifts, party and all the admittedly wonderful things that go along with it, as so many of their friends have had and are having, but they have all been completely chill about staying low-key, just doing things their way. The family way, apparently! I mean, the first time, with Laurent, it was kind of a fluke; the second with Megan we could call a coincidence, but three times in a row with this spur-of-the-moment stuff and it becomes an established tradition. It’s confirmed: this is how we roll — non-traditional to the very end! Lol!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!
