Yesterday was a day of much celebration. In the morning, I gathered the 9 children from our house (our 7 plus two cousins) and went over to the hotel where Doug and Sarah are staying with their younger ones for a swimming session in the pool. It was fun to reminisce, since it was there that we stayed after the fire in 2011. I sat at the same table where we did school by the pool!
And later on in the evening, after a little rest, we all bundled into 4 vehicles and made our way to the Olive Garden by Metro Center for our annual Walter Jay Holston Memorial Birthday Bash. As usual, Koos joined us (he’s become, for all practical purposes, an honorary Holston), and what a treat it was to have Doug and family with us as well. We were only sad that Koos’ wife Talitha could not be with us, nor Sarah, who had been at the hotel all day with a sick little Margaret. Anyway, those of us who were able to make it had a wonderful time celebrating Dad and enjoying each other.
Doug and I decided to take a few of the girls over to the hotel after we were done with dinner, drop them off to babysit, and whisk Sarah away for some fresh air and a movie. We thought we were going to see The Equalizer, but when we arrived and found that the website had the time wrong, we ended up at The Judge – and it was wonderful. Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr., plus Billy Bob Thornton for good measure. What a triple win!
