Rainy Days and Mondays

Well, if you read the Drudge Report, you know yesterday was incredibly rainy in Phoenix!

It began in the middle of the night, and the rain had been pouring down in buckets for hours before most people were up and began their trek to work.  Paul usually leaves before 6, and he drove the whole way amidst the terror of Phoenix drivers who don’t know how to navigate rain to begin with – only to find that at his office, the power was out. So back home he came.  Laurent learned early that the Ss. Simon and Jude school was closed for the day, so she would not be going to work either.  Then we learned that GCC was closed.

On top of that, we’ve been battling a flu bug in our house as it passed from one kid to the next, and with the rain and treacherous roads outside, and comfy couches inside, there was an immediate and enthusiastic consensus that Doctor Who would be our plan for the day. 🙂

I didn’t get outside with my camera while the downpour was happening, but Junior enjoyed playing with the the umbrella, and I got a pic of the back yard pond (which today has resulted in some 12″ weeds sprouting up!).

We did eventually work on a little school, at least Jacob and I did.  And then after lunch, when the rain had thankfully let up and the skies had begun to clear, I took Boy No. 1 to the dentist. On the way back, we saw some standing water by the QT while waiting for a train at Grand Avenue, and then drove around the neighborhood to see if there was any flooding nearby – and yep, the park had a nice lake going.

I snagged a number of photos from the AZ Central Website so you can see more of the damage inflicted by this storm.  It’s hard to believe that just the outer edges of a hurricane can do this much damage!
