So my daughter comes home from college today and tells me this tale:
I was in the bathroom before class washing my hands, when this woman came in and tried to steal my backpack. I pulled on it to get it back, and she punched me in the face. So I punched her in the boob, and she fell down and I ran out. By the time I found security, she was gone, but they took down all the information and called the police, and apologized to me profusely – and then because I was late, they let me go to class. But I did get my bag away from her!
Thing one:
I never thought to warn my daughter about the violent women in this world – only the men. These days, there are plenty of malevolent, predatory women around, and apparently, you can’t be too careful.
Thing two:
I’m glad her assailant was unarmed, or it could have gone much worse for Megan.
Thing three:
I’m very proud of my girl. She is one tough cookie!
Thing four:
Self defense classes are a really good idea.

3 Sep 2014Yes…you can be very proud of your girl! She had “guts” enough to fight back and not just back away in fear! I am so proud of her…and as you say, one must be ever alert and aware of ALL around us at all times!

3 Sep 2014It’s so sad that such violence has become so commonplace in today’s world. I am relieved that Megan is OK, as you say, it could have been much worse.

4 Sep 2014How I wish for simpler, more compassionate, and mannerly times…. this is not the world in which any of us wanted our children to grow up. It is a challenge indeed to know how to prepare them both to protect themselves while also maintaining a generous spirit toward those around them.
