August in Minnesota: A Brief Interregnum – Part 3

Thursday appears to have disappeared from my memory — at least, I have no photos of that day.  I dimly recall Doug and Sarah coming over to Vicki’s house that evening to have a “Waiting For Lauren” party that ended pretty early since Sarah was coming down with a cold. Vicki and I held on till Lauren, driving in from Glendive, MT, arrived around 10:30pm, and stayed up another couple of hours to catch up on one another before we crashed.  We concluded that the three of us had not been together for at least 20 years, and that that was entirely and utterly too-too long between reunions.

Friday (after a late brunch at IHOP with the whole family) was spent primarily working on sorting and throwing away junk at the storage unit.  We got two full pickup trucks emptied out before we got down to just what we might want to save, and then it started raining.  But it was great having Lauren and Vicki there to help, and we accomplished much of what was needed.  The rain didn’t last too long, and when the sun came out just before dusk, we were able to make a visit to the Prairie Home Cemetery to visit Dad’s grave.  It was very special to be there with mom, Jeff and Doug. Family is important! As my mother-in-law says, and she’s right.

Here are pics from: Vicki’s house and neighborhood, the lovely little VW Jetta I got to drive for a week (that was fun!), a couple of shots from IHOP, and then both family pics from the cemetery, and some hilarious pics with my girlfriends. There is nothing like the joy of time with friends who know and love you and with whom you can always count on sharing both conversations of spiritual depth, as well as uninhibited laughter and goofiness. I feel profoundly blessed!!
