Despite the preponderance of negativity about our country and its citizens everywhere I looked on the internet yesterday, our family was able to enjoy a pleasant interlude as we gathered at Paul’s brother Jon’s house for food, fellowship, firecrackers, face-painting and fun. Squealing children, the snap of poppers, the crackling of sparklers, plus loads of scrumptious food and plenty of catching up with family we hadn’t seen in a while, all made for a delightful evening. My foot was not up to a lot of running around getting photos, but I sent the camera outside and, before the very low battery ran out, Laurent got some fun shots around the acreage, including the goats and chickens and the gorgeous colors of the sunset upon the Superstition mountains – can you believe they get to see that view every time they look out their front windows? God’s creation is truly glorious. I’m glad we could celebrate the birth of our nation, and I pray that regardless of what the future holds, those of us who claim the name of Christ will remain vigilant in prayer for our leaders, for our nation, for the Church, and that we may bring ever more light and healing to a dark and hurting world in need of true peace.
