November at the Ranch

November at the Ranch

Quick!! Before the month is over, I have to post my magnificent pics from our November ranch trip.  Honestly, it’s probably good that I have waited this long to write it up, since most of the trauma of our dramatic journey has faded by now.  But yes, it was one of “those” trips, of which we have had so very many… it was fraught with fear and doubt and loss, both the journey there and back again.  Engine trouble, tire trouble, and the permanent loss of a cell phone, and that was just on the way there!  Our northward journey took almost 3 hours longer than it normally does, but we were just grateful to arrive.  Our guardian angels were obviously busy and working well as a team, getting us home safe and sound in spite of it all.

One of the saddest things about the trip was that we were missing Megan, who had to stay in town to work on some heavy-duty studying.  She was greatly anticipating some independence… until we were well on our way and the realization struck that in all the hubbub of packing, loading and departure, no one had remembered to leave her some keys for the van.  So much for independence!  She spent the weekend being ferried about by her uncle (though I’m told they had a lot of fun and went to more than one movie — there are perks to being chauffeured by Uncle Jeff!).

Friday morning we set off on a drive up to the White Mountains by Springerville to enjoy some marching around in the woods.
Pics from the drive:

We started out at Poll Knoll, hiked the trails for a bit,
had a rousing pine-cone-battle,
then drove to a couple of nearby lakes and messed around on the shore.
The boys had fun throwing rocks in the water.
Boys!
Always with the throwing things!

Friday afternoon,
just bopping around the yard…

Following Beedo around,
gathering some precious pics of a precious little guy,
reveling in the wide open spaces,
running up and down the driveway and the road,
always under the watchful eye of Gwin,
wonderment amidst the tall grasses,
examining the bugs up close…

Saturday afternoon we went exploring and had some fun at the old cowboy station.
Beedo thoroughly enjoyed his explore,
even though he was getting tired and ready for a nap.

Evening back at the cabin…
I always end up taking dozens of pictures of the sunset,
in hopes of finding just a few that match the experience.

The end of the day….
sibling cuteness,
and a campfire to finish off a memorable weekend at the ranch.
