February at the Ranch V – Sunday, all day

Sunday morning began bright and early with some tasty oatmeal, followed by a quick scrub and brush to make us all respectable, and then into town for 10am mass.

After church, we zipped back, smacked some cold cuts, cheese, and alfalfa sprouts between pieces of bread, and had a quick lunch before heading off for another explore.

This time, our hike was all downhill… hiking down a twisty, turny wash toward Macintosh Springs.  The boundless energy of youth was on full, glorious display as there was no slowing those kids down, not with the 40° temps plus wind, not with the soft sandy terrain — they could not contain their delight at the opportunity to throw snowballs, and our first half of the hike was probably double the length of the second half for that reason alone.

Jacob had a bit of the fun with the snowballs, but eventually found himself wandering along above the wash through the woods, where I would occasionally spot him, blending well with the surrounding greenery in his camouflage.

We made it all the way to the end of the wash, which culminated in a steep drop off into the canyon below where the springs are located.  On a warmer day, we the rest of the crew might have climbed down, but it was growing colder and stormier, and we still had to walk back up the wash to return to the van, so we only stopped there long enough for the kids to sit on the edge and freak Mom completely out of her gourd while she took a couple of pics, and then we headed back.

Our evening meal was taken within the warm interior of the cabin, due to the wind and weather.  The girls spent some time doodling and showed me their drawings, before an early lights out.

Once again we thank our heavenly Father for a delightful time of refreshment at the ranch, and safe travels, which we never take for granted. 🙂
