So to wrap up that week long poll I had running here, the clear frontrunner at this point in the primary season is Herman Cain. I am afraid that being a newbie to using this WordPress polling feature, I was unclear on the fact that only one vote can be cast from an IP address. At least that is what I think is going on – because after one vote from this household had been cast, no more were allowed. I’m assuming that was true for others. At any rate, it’s a view of a tiny slice of the landscape.
At the house, we are excited to have seen the walls go up this last week, and I expect there to be painting by the end of this coming week. Which is both terrifying and thrilling.
We had a very nice Sunday, picking up several kiddos for 9am mass. It was a delight to sing Jean Mouton’s Ave Maria, as well as John Rutter’s God Be In My Head, long a favorite since first hearing it sung by the Concordia Choir. Here’s a beautiful rendition by the Cambridge Singers:

Afterwards we met at Carl’s Jr. for a bit of lunch, then spent the afternoon relaxing at home with Lisa. The older girls left for choir rehearsal around 3:45, and took Lisa home on their way. I planned to leave later to bring Jacob and Geneva to meet their RE teacher and attend the evening mass with their class, which they will be doing once a month as part of their preparation for confirmation/first communion. I failed to leave early enough due to becoming engrossed in a fascinating conversation with my sweetie-pie about his readings of the “insurmountably brilliant” Hilaire Belloc — particularly chapter V of The Great Heresies, The Albigensian Attack — and thus, we arrived 3 minutes late, and had to sit in the back. We joined the class afterward for a brief word of greeting from both Fr. Matt and Fr. Lankeit.

The Biggest news for this week — Mother will be returning for her “snow bird” winter stay in Arizona on Wednesday. There is much rejoicing (and much happy cleaning in anticipation)!! 🙂 And we will scarcely have caught our breath from her arrival, when we will be off to the ranch for our annual Halloween weekend meetup with Paul’s parents,

who will be driving down from MN to meet us there. It’s a grand time of year indeed.

And, Hopefully, the trip will have been uneventful!
