After a winding drive through gorgeous mountain scenery, we found ourselves at our destination, Luna Lake Wildlife Area. We were honestly a little disappointed at first. We had all envisioned a picturesque alpine lake with crystal blue waters reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks, but what we found was rather flat, surrounded by fields of brown. Still, we drove around a little to a spot near a tackle shop, and got out to explore. It turned out to be quite lovely, especially with the dramatic clouds above us adding interest to the scene. After we ran around beside the lake and took our pictures, we jumped in the van and Izuzu and headed back down the mountain. When Paul pulled over onto a shoulder, I thought there must be something wrong. He gestured for me to come, so I hopped out and ran to his open window, and he pointed across the highway toward the wide open vista, and said, “Picture?” I love that man. He gives me grief all the time for taking too many pictures, but it’s all a front — he loves what I do, and loves that I have a way to express my artistic side (which is pretty much the only side I have). So I ran across the highway and took several shots of the far away mountain, trying my wide angle lens and zooming as far as my paltry 135mm could zoom. Not bad results! 🙂
