Dreamy

Dreamy

On our last day of this holiday weekend, Paul again took the family on a little walk-about. This time we met up with the Grands at Dreamy Draw Park. I had never been there before, and was looking forward to seeing some new terrain. When we arrived, we found the parking lot completely filled. Being, as we are, independent minded westerners, we found some open gravel next to the paved parking lot and started a new row.  (It was only as we were leaving a couple of hours later, with a dozen or more cars having followed our lead, that I saw the sign indicating that ONLY horse trailers could park there. Oopsie!)

Anyway, despite what seemed like way too many people, we found our little section of the park relatively unclogged with foot/bicycle/animal traffic. I suspect most everyone else headed off-road, while we stayed on the paved pathway.

Although I brought my camera, I felt somewhat let down by the views. This should not have been the case, because right now the desert is very green, and usually I am jazzed by greens! My perspective may have been colored by the fact that we’ve now arrived at the 3/4 of the year when I burn in the sun after roughly 3-5 minutes, so I was hot and not feeling enthusiastic about much of anything. However, I decided that I should take this as a photographic challenge, and see what I could make of the photos regardless of my temporal discomfort.

After we’d walked all I could manage, we rested for a few minutes in the ramada (where another family was setting up for a picnic and, amusingly, had the Spanish soundtrack of Frozen blaring from some device or other). Then the rest of the crew took off for another bit of exploring while I went to the car and enjoyed the breezes blowing through my open windows in relative comfort. Once they got back to the parking lot, I took off with my car-full, and went to the church to pick up Jacob from his retreat, which finished at noon. We met the rest of the group, who had gone home to pick up Oma, at Burger King for lunch. The afternoon was spent shooting arrows, and since I’d had enough of the out of doors for one day, there are no pics. If they go some morning at 6am, I can definitely come along to shoot that gig.
